A great school focusing on students' learning styles
Submitted by Melanie Gentile (not verified) on August 6, 2008 - 09:45.
I think what they are doing at the Key Largo School is amazing. The students are engaged, enjoying what they are doing, and learning. I think it is great that the students are focused on, and their learning styles. It is quite ironic that even though they are not focusing on teaching to the test, that the students are getting top marks in the standardized tests. This should be used as an example for other schools, many students could benefit from this type of school setting.

What a great way at looking at students. They were so engaged in everything they were doing. You have inspired me to become more of a risk taker myself. Maybe if I take more risks my students will follow in my footsteps. Thanks for the inspiration.

I am inspired, also! It would be fantastic to have such wonderful technology in the classroom. The children at this school really seemed to love taking part in all aspects of the technology fair and learning through technology in the classroom. I also found it very interesting to note that future jobs haven't even been invented, yet. It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for us!
Using technology to understand how the brain learns
Submitted by Brandi Little (not verified) on May 26, 2008 - 13:40.
I am so impressed with this school. I can't believe all of the activites that they incorporate for their students. It is great that Key Largo touches on all types of learners. I found it interesting that the teacher dimmed the lights for hyperactive students; that is something so simple that I have never thought about. It must be nice having an administrator that allows you to focus on engaging students rather than the results of testing. Also, I admire the fact that these teachers are risk takers. Education is such an important part of a person's life, and I feel sometimes as educators we don't take enough risks to see what truly works. I would love to try the brain gym exercises as well. It is nice to know students get to make healthy foods, landscape and care for plants, and participate in WWKLS. This is more of what students want rather than learning from textbooks about content irrelevant to them. It is obvious that students really do "experience the joy of learning" at Key Largo.
I'm an 8th grader at this school!

Haha! I am an 8th grader there in 2008 right now! There have been a lot of changes there, trust me. But the technology use hasn't. It's still a 5 star school, and the teachers there are extremely into what they teach, so...
Yep. I recommend this school to anyone who lives in South Florida. Very good at what they do there, and the new building they made is amazing!
Something I do there right now can be seen at KLSRacing.tk . It's a small project I'm working on... =D

This schools sounds amazing. I am going to take some things that I learned and try them in my room. It is great that they are encouraged to take all these risks.
