October

International Fund for Animal Welfare: Animal Action Week
1-7, worldwide

Here's a chance for us to celebrate the other 100 million species inhabiting Earth. During the first week in October (which includes World Animal Day on the 4th), students are encouraged to create a better world for animals in numerous ways: celebrating animals through dance, drama, and art; organizing a sponsored road race or bake sale; and distributing leaflets or creating petitions.

National School Boards Association Technology and Learning Conference
17-19, Nashville, Tennessee

A four-day event designed for district leadership teams, this is NSBA's largest annual educational-technology gathering. Focus this year includes open source initiatives and twenty-first-century skills. Stay an extra day to see country-soul singer Ronnie Milsap at the Grand Ole Opry on Saturday night.

Association for Educational Communications and Technology Annual Conference
23-27, Anaheim, California

"Learning Within the Kaleidoscope" is the theme this year. What's that mean? You got us, but the AECT assures us they will be spinning the shaft to illuminate the way. Individuals, moving parts, and unique pieces of education are both continuously changing and constantly integrated.

November

National Quality Education Conference: Building Better Schools
11-13, St. Louis, Missouri

The name says it all: building better schools. Leadership, teamwork, and learning are the NQEC's ingredients for success, and the conference aims to serve up a heaping helping of ideas.

National Alliance of Black School Educators 35th Annual Conference
13-18, Nashville, Tennessee

NABSE founder Charles D. Moody once said, "When one is in a struggle or battle, he looks around to see if he is alone." Today, NABSE reaches out to more than 10,000 educators nationwide and continues to improve the educational experiences and accomplishments of African American youth.

December

Association for Career and Technical Education Expo 2007
13-14, Las Vegas, Nevada

Let education that prepares youth for careers never again carry the stigma that the woodshop, home economics, and ROTC classes of yore once possessed. In today's classroom, career education is exciting, practical, and applicable to every vein of the curricula.
