what assumptions make us think we can't have cafes?
-all students have to eat at the same time
-all students have to eat in the same place
How could we make changes to the organisation of the school to allow for more human-sized groups? Staggered lunch times? Small learning communities, or schools-within-schools, each with their own cafe, potentially serviced from a central kitchen? Flexible use of cafe space so that it supports learning as well as eating?
Students in Australian schools usually eat outside at break times, having brought food from home or bought it in the canteen. A series of small cafes with indoor and outdoor seating would be a respectful and positive change from this experience as well.
