Tony Bencivenga

Tony Bencivenga, with more than thirty-eight years in public education, is a leader in curriculum, instruction, and staff development. A retired principal from Ridgewood, New Jersey, and now professor of education at William Paterson University, Bencivenga is committed to nurturing the synergistic power among all stakeholders in the school community. He recognizes that children are the most important stakeholders and must play an important role in their education. As a professor, author, and consultant, he challenges educators to establish a caring, supportive social and emotional learning environment in which children have fun, create meaning, and achieve academic success through project-based experiences, interdisciplinary planning, and constructivism.

At lunchtime recess on elementary school playgrounds, ball fields, and schoolyards across the nation, the joyful sounds of children at play are often interrupted by shouts of distress: "She took my basketball!" "He cut ahead of me!" "It's my turn!" "You cheated!" "Stop pushing!"
